Esporta is a mid-tier, full amenity gym chain that has 142 locations across the nation. It is a spin-off, rebrand subsidiary of LA Fitness (which is still the parent company). Thus, the clubs itself are similar, and amenities are very alike. Here's what you can expect:
Most in the industry believe that having these 4 amenities put a gym into the mid-tier category. That means a general bump up in price, too.
Finally, you can expect all your standard gym equipment at Esporta too:
Esporta Fitness was originally established as LA Fitness in 1984 in Los Angeles, California. As of 2021, the CEO of LA Fitness (and thus Esporta Fitness) is Louis Welch. The headquarters are still in Irvine, California. Esporta Fitness is a rebrand of some LA Fitness locations, as of 2020.
The ones that aren't? Exact hours vary at all clubs, but the most common we've seen for them:
The total amount of locations we're tracking from this fitness chain.
Room for activities! Average square footage of their gyms.
How much you can expect to pay for the entry-level membership every month
An established fitness chain that has aqua amenities on lock. They're also an excellent option busy parents with childcare, or those looking to play basketball on hardwood. If a pool, sauna or hot tub is on your must-have list, then Esporta is a must-look.
Their commitment to aqua-based amenities. Seriously, this is one of the top gym chains in the country, as they offer saunas, pools and hot tubs at the majority of clubs.
So many clubs have childcare! 77% actually, with 110 of 142. Busy parents, take our advice: a gym with childcare is a life-hack!
Hoopers (especially those on hardwood) are limited to where they can play. Esporta to the rescue: they've got over 100 different gyms to practice our shot at.
We believe that most Esporta members are quite happy with their offerings as a whole. But would we update and change a few things? Of course.
More than just 3 of their locations were open 24-hours-a-day. One of their main competitors, 24 Hour Fitness, has 110 locations open all night.
Would upgrade some of their facilities—we know a good amount are of older age (5+ years). Refreshes would be nice!
They offered up newer, trendier services and amenities—such as cardio cinema, massage chairs, tanning services and even pickleball!
We believe pricing varies by location, like every other gym chain out there. However, our comparison brought these prices five different times.
This held true for Esporta in:
The question of $9.99 month vs $29.99 month comes down to how much you're willing to fork up front. Break-even point for these memberships is at 7-months, where you'd pay $270 for either.
Anything past that, for those planning to stay for longer than 7-months, should go for the $9.99 option. After 1-year of an Esporta membership, it would cost $379 for the $9.99/month, vs $419 on the $29.99/month (including annual fee).
And yes, the annual fee is just $59 for either of the memberships. We didn't see a differing price anywhere else.
It's nice to see a straightforward pricing scheme: there aren't tiered membership options for different amenities, nor are there confusing regional or all/single-access options.
We all have different bodies, different goals and different fitness journeys. Some gyms may fit a person better than others. So who would enjoy this gym most?

"Is this gym worth it?"
Use our guides to help inform and educate what a gym can offer your fitness lifestyle. Only you can truly decide if a gym is worth it!
Esporta gyms offer up a very affordable, traditional-big-box-style gym experience. They have a compelling mix of amenities, though packaged in a pretty standard (even bland) type of way. You'll get to experience many amenities that smaller chains don't have such as the pool, sauna, basketball and more. They're just delivered in gyms that might look a bit drab and boring.
That follows along with their parent company LA Fitness, which is just getting long in the tooth in terms of look and feel. Does that translate into their amenities? Yes, a bit. There are no turf areas, or Olympic lifting platforms—both of which are popular with the younger crowd. We think it's a signal Esporta needs to modernize and update. (December 2023 update: we're seeing both turf and Olympic platforms in their photography, plus in people's post on Instagram and Facebook but.... Esporta doesn't make it clear on their website amenities list. As of now we have them set to zero)
Nor are there tanning and massage options, available at Crunch and others. Same for steam and 24-hour access since just a handful of Esporta gyms have it.
Don't take this all for bad. Esporta excels with their aqua (pool and sauna) options. No other gym chain out there can challenge their 136 pools. Same goes for the amazing 114 basketball courts, which come with access to leagues and tournaments...this chain is a must for hoopers!
Pricing-wise, if you're willing to pay the high $199 initiation fee to start, then you'll enjoy a stellar $9.99 monthly cost. That's a better value to fast-fitness chains like Planet Fitness or Anytime Fitness. Our take: commit to fitness, and go with Esporta over either of the two.
While many will find Esporta as worth it—it'll be the swimmers and hoopers who really get the most value. All others will enjoy a solid fitness experience.
