LA Fitness gyms are everywhere! Seriously, we count their 460+ locations in over 158 different cities across the country. As one of the largest, "mid-tier" gym chains, you can expect a huge amount of amenities across most of their locations. Here's what we mean:
The 4 amenities above are typically what separate "mid-tier" gym chains from their more budget options. Still, LA Fitness doesn't have it all, as none of their locations have
Of course, all your standard gym offerings are there:
Collectively, you can expect a large offering of amenities and services at LA Fitness that will satisfy nearly all gym-goers.
LA Fitness was founded in Los Angeles, California, United States in 1984. The current CEO is Louis Welch. The headquarters are located in Irvine, California.
Every location has their own specific hours. But, most of the gyms we've seen from LA Fitness are open:

Sooo many pools! A stunning 434 locations—93% of their total--offer the amenity. No other gym chain comes close to having as many.
Their dedication to racquetball. More than half of their locations (54%) offer up the sport to members. You can find a court at a stunning 254 total gyms.
Pretty sure that LA Fitness checks off most of the needs for their members, but there are still a few things we'd like to see.
With so many locations, it's expected that maintenance and upkeep can get difficult. No, their clubs aren't falling apart by any means: but you can see the age in some locations as they've been up for many years.
They would upgrade their website. There is a lack of photos for prospective members to decide with. We also have seen inconsistencies in the amenities offered.
We got more clarification, answers and support regarding their pickleball situation. We've emailed, DM'd and tried to connect with LA Fitness about their Kent location's court.... and it's been crickets.

"Is this gym worth it?"
Use our guides to help inform and educate what a gym can offer your fitness lifestyle. Only you can truly decide if a gym is worth it!
As one of the larger big-box fitness chains, LA Fitness clubs are available in multiple states and cities. You've likely got one nearby to you with how widespread they are.
Luckily for you, they've brought along amenities and services that smaller operators just can't keep up with. Many will love their pool, sauna and childcare options that just aren't readily available elsewhere. Or, basketball courts at 361 locations. That many hoops is just unheard of, and a major draw for those who like to hit the hardwood.
Where we start to see other chains shine in comparison, such as 24 Hour Fitness, is the open-all-night availability. LA Fitness doesn't have a single option there, unfortunately. Or, zero tanning and massage options, which competitor Crunch can offer up.
And these are the things that make it a gym worth it: your personal preference, your specific sport, your ideal fitness routine. LA Fitness has done a good job in many places—but necessarily not all.
Just as Esporta has done, their parent company LA Fitness has standardized pricing across the board. Looking at 5 different locations across the nation—Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Portland—all have the competitive $39.99/month rate. They all come with an ok $75 initiation, and standard-ish $59 annual fee. All numbers you see are current as of December 2023.
So, their pricing options are quite simple, and thankfully also allow you service into City Sports, LA Fitness and Esporta. It's a simple setup that you'll also appreciate if you're a frequent traveler. By our count, this rate will get you into 608 different gyms in the country—wow!
Overall however, cheaper options may get you a better deal. We checked other gyms that have pools, basketball, and some with childcare—slim pickins! However, look to VASA or EoS, or a larger brand like 24 Hour Fitness. Deals can also be found with them, plus they'll compete well with the LA Fitness family.
