Is City Sports Club open 24 hours a day?

Sorry! City Sports Club doesn't offer a 24/7 workout option. That's right—not a single one of their gyms operate through the night. We thought even a couple would, in the busy Bay Area.

Besides 24 Hour Fitness and Anytime Fitness, there aren't any other options for late night workouts in these areas.

Strategically opening a handful—San Jose, Hayward, Concord and Elk Grove for example—would go a long way to steal some members and grow their brand. With larger facilities than Anytime, and overall amenities closely related to 24 Hour, it would be wise for City Sports to take a look here.

Running a 24-hour gym involves navigating a few hurdles. A mix of considerations influences whether a gym chain decides to operate continuously. Issues observed in many gym chains encompass:

• Are the extended operating hours sanctioned by the city or county where the gym is located?
• What kind of safety protocols are required to manage the gym effectively in emergencies?
• How strong is the demand from members for overnight access?
• Does the gym possess the necessary staffing and resources to maintain operations throughout the night?

That's a good question, and one that we can't exactly answer. It's important to remember that City Sports owned by the same company who manages LA Fitness and Esporta. With just 20 gyms, this is by-far the smallest of the three. 

• LA Fitness: 0 clubs of 466 open 24/7
• City Sports: 0 clubs of 20 open 24/7
• Esporta: just 3 clubs of 142 open 24/7

If many more of these locations had all-night-hours, we might be inclined to ponder if City Sports Club would be next. That doesn't seem like the case here.

All City Sports Club locations open and close at the same time. Here are their hours:

• Monday: 5:00 AM – 11:00 PM
• Tuesday: 5:00 AM – 11:00 PM
• Wednesday: 5:00 AM – 11:00 PM
• Thursday: 5:00 AM – 11:00 PM
• Friday: 5:00 AM – 10:00 PM
• Saturday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• Sunday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM

We do like the 5:00 AM starts on weekdays—that's right on par with their competition. 8 to 8 on weekends is both a little late in the morning and early in the night, something they should consider expanding.

None of the 20 gyms from City Sports Club are open 24-hours-a-day. Between sister companies LA Fitness and Esporta, just 3 total gyms are open 24/7, so it doesn't look like this amenity will show up in the Bay Area. Though not all night, their open hours are pretty standard, nothing extraordinary.
