Does 24 Hour Fitness have pickleball?
Let me guess: your newfound addiction of pickleball has you wanting to play every day and every night. You're not alone—pickleball is one of the most popular sports right now, an absolutely fun and addictive game for folks of all ages.
Here at gymscompared.com, players are always asking us if a certain gym has a court. And it does make complete sense. Wouldn't it be great if your pickleball matches were at the same location as your daily workout?
Yes, more and more gyms across the country are starting to add pickleball as an amenity—and you're in luck, we've got the full list.
So, what about 24 Hour Fitness?
Nope, sorry. Not a single location from 24 Hour Fitness has pickleball. Of their 283 locations, none of them have a court.
We checked every single webpage of theirs, and confirmed through our connections at 24 that pickleball is not an official amenity offered.
Why doesn't 24 Hour Fitness have pickleball?
Since there are no tennis courts at 24 Hour Fitness, any pickleball play would be on their basketball hardwood. If you're a frequent member like I am here, you'll know that the courts are generally quite busy at 24 Hour Fitness.
Anecdotal experience for sure, but of the several locations in the Bay Area in California—San Ramon, Walnut Creek, San Mateo—and many more—all have a steady influx of basketball pickup games being played. Sometimes players wait 2-3 cycles (games) until they can get on the court.
This obviously leaves much less time for an exploding and popular sport such as pickleball. Gotta imagine the existing members wouldn't be too happy with that.
Other reasons we're guessing pickleball hasn't been introduced at 24:
- No staffing or limited staffing to watch/manage/direct the play, as well as tournament and/or tournament setup
- Would potentially raise the prices of existing memberships, since equipment (nets, balls, paddles) and such does add up in cost.
Will 24 Hour Fitness have pickleball in the future?
You read why they don't have it. But, I believe they should offer it—here are a few reasons why:
- "They have the space." In fact, 66% of 24 Hour Fitness gyms have a basketball court. That is 186 potential locations where pickleball could happen. Introducing pickleball would be a delicate balance of reserving time slots or days in which the game can be setup, monitored and played, of course.
- It's growing in popularity: capitalize on the wave and present pickleball as a new amenity to new customers. Would be a great way to attract and bring sign-ups, especially to struggling gyms.
- Introducing a new sport/amenity to their existing members could bring some good-will. After removing childcare in 2020, and the reduction/changing of the 24-hour-a-day operating times (2021), adding pickleball could prove to members that 24 has their back.
- It's super fun! Yeah, right? I can imagine a few locations with pickleball, featuring an employee only tournament to kick it off. Great workout, great fun, awesome team building experience!
Wrapping it up
No pickleball at 24, sorry folks. We'll see how it plays out through the years.
