Looking for a new gym? You've come to the right spot—the comprehensive guide to the Equinox. We compiled all of our expert knowledge on this page, just for you. We'll give you everything you need to know about this popular gym chain.
Equinox is a upscale chain that describes itself "where luxury and fitness meet." Some of the key themes we see at many of their locations include
Clubs do include "standard" gym equipment, but placed in more luxurious settings. That might mean mood lighting, upgraded views of the city or simply larger, premier-feel workout areas. You can expect to see:
Many Equinox locations also include amenities that we see with mid-tier gyms, but with an upgraded twist:
Equinox Fitness is a luxury fitness company that was founded in 1991. It was established in New York City, United States.
The current CEO of Equinox Fitness is Harvey Spevak.
While the exact times will differ for every location, the most common opening hours we've seen from Equinox are:

Room for activities! Average square footage of their gyms.
How much you can expect to pay for the entry-level membership every month
Equinox clubs have an aura and attitude that you won't experience at other mainstream gym chains. With a focus on upscale, luxurious services, their amenities reflect that perfectly.
We love the exclusive, upscale nature of the entire gym experience. Their attention to detail in architecture and interior design is unmatched.
Many of saunas at Equinox feature eucalyptus scents and oils—intensifying and uplifting the experience.
The heavy focus on studio offerings, with classes like MetCon3 (metabolic conditioning), Cycle Beats, Pilates Mat and Power Vinyasa.
Pretty sure that Equinox checks most of the needs for their members, but there are still a few things we'd like to see.
Their prices were more competitive aka lower! Look, we understand that the amount of amenities and services they offer are head and shoulders above other gym chains—but nothing wrong with wanting to save a few bucks, right?
There was an emphasis to include traditionally country-club sports, like tennis, racquetball and pickleball. Currently, none of their locations feature them.
Women's workout areas were available. Of all fitness chains out there, Equinox would be our guess to have this exclusive perk.
Monthly membership costs to Equinox vary by location, just like every other fitness chain out there. Pricing as of December 2023 include:
Some locations such as Hollywood offer up access to additional, regional locations for a few more dollars at $287.
Every location we looked at has an all USA/Canada option for $310. Every location we researched has a worldwide option for $345. Every location at Equinox offers the worldwide option + NYC Hudson yards for $405.
There currently is a $0 initiation deal for all membership types—likely part of their Black Friday/Holiday/New Year pricing. We haven't seen that before (though it may actually be common, we're just unsure). That cost is commonly $300 for you to get started with Equinox.
Oddly enough, no mention of an annual or yearly fee. That's both on their site and scouring through Reddit threads.
We all have different bodies, different goals and different fitness journeys. Some gyms may fit a person better than others. So who would enjoy this gym most?
You want a premium experience, and money takes a back seat. Your taste for luxury extends to the gym, where high-end facilities combine with individualized personal training and upscale group fitness options. Spa-like locker rooms, and actually—a real spa—are frequent visits in your daily life. If you enjoy the luxurious, lifestyle of a high-end fitness experience, Equinox will cater to you best.
Free weights, strength machines and cardio equipment.
Nothing like the hot heat to warm muscles up.
An extra early or real late workout—your choice.
Stretch, sleds, bodyweight or box jumps. The turf area is the place to be.
Relieve pain post workout or soothe sore muscles.

"Is this gym worth it?"
Use our guides to help inform and educate what a gym can offer your fitness lifestyle. Only you can truly decide if a gym is worth it!
Equinox gyms come with this aura and exclusivity that many crave. Away from the hustle-bustle of extra busy national gym chains, Equinox wanted big, bright, airy locations where literally "fitness meets luxury."
Interior design and architecture buffs will appreciate the small touches and materials used to build their clubs. That's pristine wood benches, stone-facades, exquisite tiled structures and marble capped bathrooms or workspaces.
Your gym experience includes relaxing in eucalyptus-infused steam rooms or switching to an intense trainer driven barre or pilates class. They also can watch your kids at about half of their locations, or get a massage in their in-house spa. As with all gyms, standard gym equipment like cardio and strength equipment are there for your use—but may be placed in a high floor with an exquisite view. Or, a group exercise studio infused with dramatic mood lighting. These things matter—but do come with a price.
While most gym memberships we see are between $10 and $70, Equinox will run your $200 to $300. With over 30 years of success in growing their fitness brand, we can surely tell you that many feel their membership is worth every dime.
