Ready to turn up the heat? Like others, you've discovered the immense benefits of a sauna. You love the hot hot heat, and the way it draw toxins and impurities from your skin. We are on the same vibe my friend: that fresh out of the sauna' feeling is purely addictive!
Here at gymscompared.com, people are always asking us if a certain gym has a sauna. And we can clearly see why it makes sense: Folks are either warming up muscles before their workouts, or relaxing sore ones once their session is complete. Bottom line: the sauna is a key amenity to help achieve your fitness goals.
More and more gyms across the country have added a sauna (or two!) for their members—and we've done all the research for you.

So, which locations have saunas?
As of March 2024, we're tracking 18 of their gyms. A very strong 83% of their locations have a sauna, which is exactly 15 California Family Fitness gyms.
This is quite good compared to other gym chains in the Sacramento and surrounding areas. Several others such as Anytime and Planet Fitness are nearby, but don't offer a sauna (nor a pool or steam room) that many Cal Fit clubs have. 24 Hour Fitness also has a few locations close by, and do have saunas as well.
If you're searching for your new fitness home with saunas as a top priority, be sure to check the Sacramento gym page, as well as the all saunas nearby page.
How hot is the sauna at California Family Fitness?
We're not quite sure on the exact temperature at this gym chain but we're looking into it. Do know that there will be variances between each location as well.
In our experience though:
- Most traditional saunas we've seen have their temperatures set between 150 and 175 degrees F.
- Infrared saunas usually aren't quite as hot, and hover around 120 and 140 degrees F.
What kind of sauna does California Family Fitness have?
There are a few different types of saunas, with the most popular being "traditional" or "infrared." There is mention of "infrared" on Cal Fit's pages, so safe to assume you'll get a traditional (our favorite!) sauna at this gym chain.
Are there separate saunas for men and women?
We're not quite sure, sorry! Check back here or join our mailing list for our latest updates.
What to wear in the sauna at California Family Fitness?
We haven't seen a specific dress code for using the sauna at California Family Fitness. But, here are some general guidelines we've seen:
- Expect to sweat—so dress accordingly. Yep, the heat will turn up your internal temps and sweat will soon follow. Make sure you're wearing clothes that wick and/or absorb your sweat easily.
- Make sure you're comfortable: most folks we've seen in the sauna are wearing the same athletic sportswear they use on the gym floor. Shorts, leggings, t-shirts and such.
- There are of course several recommended items to not wear: such as jeans, coats and heavy clothing.
Are the saunas free to use?
Yes, they definitely are. We haven't seen any extra charge or fees to use the sauna. This specific recovery amenity is included in the total membership cost at Cal Fit.
In conclusion
So, sauna fans: California Family Fitness is a great option for those in and around the Sacramento area. We're huge fans of their total water-based amenity set (pool and steam) to go with the sauna, and are overall impressed with the overall quality of their staff and facilities. Price wise they're a bit higher than competitors with saunas, but you obviously get many more family-friendly amenities.
Hard to not recommend them if you're comfortable with the overall cost! We know you're here to see the full list of locations with a sauna—see below!
