Ready to turn up the heat? Like others, you've discovered the immense benefits of a sauna. You love the hot hot heat, and the way it draw toxins and impurities from your skin. We are on the same vibe my friend: that fresh out of the sauna' feeling is purely addictive!
Here at gymscompared.com, people are always asking us if a certain gym has a sauna. And we can clearly see why it makes sense: Folks are either warming up muscles before their workouts, or relaxing sore ones once their session is complete. Bottom line: the sauna is a key amenity to help achieve your fitness goals.
More and more gyms across the country have added a sauna (or two!) for their members—and we've done all the research for you.
So, what about In-Shape?
Wow! Nearly all of In-Shape health clubs have a sauna! An amazing 96% of their locations, in fact. Of course, scroll to the bottom of this page to see them all.

So, which locations have a sauna?
We're tracking 45 different In-Shape Health Club locations, scattered around central California primarily. 43 of them have a sauna!
This is a bit disappointing. While nearly all of their gyms have a sauna, we can't seem to find any pictures of it! Only this 'stock' image is listed, and we suspect it's not of an actual location.
What to wear to the sauna at In-Shape
We haven't seen a specific dress code for using the sauna at In-Shape. But, here are some general guidelines we've seen:
- Expect to sweat—so dress accordingly. Yep, the heat will turn up your internal temps and sweat will soon follow. Make sure you're wearing clothes that wick and/or absorb your sweat easily.
- Make sure you're comfortable: most folks we've seen in the sauna are wearing the same athletic sportswear they use on the gym floor. Shorts, leggings, t-shirts and such.
- There are of course several recommended items to not wear: such as jeans, coats and heavy clothing.
How hot is the sauna at In-Shape Health Clubs?
We're not quite sure on the exact temperature at this gym chain but we're looking into it. Do know that there will be variances between each location as well.
In our experience though:
- Most traditional saunas we've seen have their temperatures set between 150 and 175 degrees F.
- Infrared saunas usually aren't quite as hot, and hover around 120 and 140 degrees F.
Are there separate saunas for men and women?
We're not quite sure, sorry! Check back here or join our mailing list for our latest updates.
What kind of sauna does In-Shape have?
In-Shape gyms have the "traditional" sauna (vs "infrared). While there are other types, these are by far the most popular at all of the national, large gym chains we cover. The difference between the two? Primarily how they distribute heat.
- Traditional saunas use heated stones and water to heat the surrounding air—creating an atmosphere that is both hot and humid.
- Infrared saunas are "light" aka UV based, and give direct warmth to heat the body—similar to the feeling when you step into the sun, but at a much higher temperature, of course.
Which is better? It's personal preference—but there's a reason the traditional is usually the standard.
Wrapping it up
Fitness fans in Central California definitely know about In-Shape. With an amazingly diverse amenity set, this chain should be top of your consideration list. We still can't believe that nearly every single location has a sauna, kudos to them!
